The woman had previously been involved in a divorce case managed by lawyer Cao. The foundation of the marriage was rather weak, as the woman married soon after meeting her husband. Many conflicts arose after the birth of their child, including issues due to family chores. Eventually her husband moved out and asked for a divorce. In court, her husband deliberately skewed the cost of childcare, stating low wages in order to reduce the amount he would owe. Lawyer Cao however, provided the legal and moral basis, grounded in her own experience as a parent, for determining the cost of childcare in order to refute the husband's argument. She proposed that the cost of childcare be determined by combining the husband’s income with the actual childcare expenses so as to ensure a good quality of life for the child regardless of the parents’ divorce. A final settlement was agreed to, much more than what the client had expected.
